House Passes Sali’s Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Sali’s resolution honoring the 232nd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, H.Con.Res. 386, was unanimously approved today by the House of Representatives.

“It is most fitting that this measure passed with the unanimous consent of my colleagues as we honored one of the most treasured documents in our history,” said Sali. “Abraham Lincoln said he never had a political impulse not guided by the Declaration. We should continue learning from that example today.”

Sali’s resolution makes several findings including:

The signing of the Declaration of Independence marked the formal dissolution of the ties of the 13 American colonies with Great Britain.
The Declaration of Independence paved the way for the birth of the Republic.
The principles of the Declaration of Independence are essential to our understanding of what it means to be an American;
The fundamental genius of the United States is embodied in the Declaration's recognition that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness;”
Human rights are bestowed by the Creator and are unalienable – no government can or should attempt to deprive anyone of them; and
The Declaration of Independence affirms that governments are instituted to protect those rights.
“It is an honor to recognize the sheer genius and eloquence shown by our Founding Fathers in their crafting of the Declaration. The profound impact the Founding Fathers have had on our country is undeniable and today we pay tribute to their unselfish devotion to our Republic,” concluded Sali.

H.Con.Res 386 now awaits action in the Senate.
