SALI: MINNICK TO BLAME FOR HIGH GAS PRICES, DEMOCRAT EFFORTS TO HALT OIL DRILLING

SALI: MINNICK TO BLAME FOR HIGH GAS PRICES, DEMOCRAT EFFORTS TO HALT OIL DRILLING

BOISE, IDAHO – Democrat Walt Minnick is a radical environmentalist who is directly responsible for the high energy prices we are all facing, Congressman Bill Sali said today. Minnick has taken a leadership role in several radical environmental groups which have filed lawsuits, conducted smear campaigns, and pressured government agencies to prevent domestic energy production. Minnick has caused our country to dependent on foreign oil, often supplied by countries who despise our way of life.

Sali held a press conference today at the Borah Post Office steps, in order to expose Walt Minnick's dangerous connections to groups which are responsible for high energy prices. Minnick, a long time member of the Wilderness Society's Governing Council, has worked to prevent domestic and offshore drilling. On the campaign trail, Minnick has claimed on many occasions to be in support of domestic and offshore drilling.

"The bottom line here is that Walt Minnick is being dishonest with the people of Idaho," remarked Sali when speaking of Minnick's involvement in the Wilderness Society. He continued in saying, "For 16 years, Walt Minnick was an unashamed radical environmentalist who was opposed to domestic and offshore oil drilling. Then he decided to run for Congress in a district that supports drilling. He has been speaking out of both sides of his mouth, misrepresenting his record of causing serious damage to our economy and our country."

The Wilderness Society has fought to prevent domestic drilling on over 30 million acres of land which hold 24.6 billion barrels of oil in 11 states. The Wilderness Society has opposed domestic drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf, and in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska. The efforts of the Wilderness Society have been successful in persuading lawmakers to enact policies unfriendly to domestic energy production.
