Gun Owners of America give Sali A+, criticize Minnick

(Springfield, VA) - - Congressional candidate Walt Minnick is being criticized by the second largest gun rights organization in the country for refusing to let voters know where he stands on important Second Amendment issues.

"Congressional candidate Walt Minnick is 'Not Rated' by Gun Owners of America because he refuses to respond to a candidate survey," said GOA Vice Chairman Tim Macy.

"It is important for candidates without a legislative record to fill out questionnaires so that voters know where they stand on important issues."

Minnick is running in Idaho's 1st Congressional District against Congressman Bill Sali. Sali is rated "A+" by Gun Owners of America, a distinction earned by only ten members of the House of Representatives.

"Representative Bill Sali not only has a perfect voting record on Second Amendment issues, but he has taken a leadership role in Congress to protect the rights of gun owners.

"It is clear where Bill Sali stands when it comes to Second Amendment rights. Not only does he have a strong voting record, he also has returned a perfect survey to GOA.

"But where is Walt Minnick? Voters deserve to know what he thinks about the Second Amendment but he declined to answer a simple gun rights survey from GOA. A few pithy comments to the news media about 'supporting the Second Amendment' are no substitute for written answers regarding specific policies. Our experience, borne out over the past 33 years, is that candidates who do not return a survey are usually hiding virulently anti-gun views.

"What we do know about Minnick is that he supported Chuck Schumer's Brady law, saying that the most significant gun control measure to pass in a generation was a 'good idea,' and that the first vote he would likely cast in Washington would be for Nancy Pelosi, the most anti-gun Speaker of the House in history.

"Walt Minnick should come clean with gun owners and fill out the GOA questionnaire so his views can be known to the electorate. Gun owners and sportsmen deserve a representative who will not talk one way in Boise but toe a different line in the Speaker's office.

"Voters have a clear choice in this election between "A+" rated Bill Sali and someone who refuses make his views known publicly. Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund is proud to endorse Bill Sali for Congress," Mr. Macy said.
