The Sali Farm and Ranch Team calls Minnick's plan to breach the dams "unacceptable"


BOISE, IDAHO – Walt Minnick has said unequivocally that he is in favor of breaching the lower Snake River dams. Breaching the dams would have devastating economic consequences to Idaho's economy, particularly the farming and ranching community.

Minnick was quoted by the AP in 2003 as saying, "We only have hopefully one more lawsuit to say as a matter of law that if we're going to recover the salmon that dams have to come down now."


The Sali Farm and Ranch Team, co-chaired by Robert Blair and Drew Eggers, adamantly opposes any effort to breach the dams.

"Breaching the lower Snake River dams is an insane policy for a candidate for Congress to take in Idaho. It would radically alter the agricultural practices we employ here in western Idaho," said Blair after hearing about Minnick's plan.


Blair continued in saying, "we must make sure that Bill Sali, a man who has represented the interests of Idaho's farmers and ranchers, gets reelected. Minnick has taken a radical stance on many issues important to us farmers."

Drew Eggers commented on Minnick's views in saying, "Minnick is a far-left environmentalist who has advocated policies which have caused serious damage to our nation's economy. Now, to hear that he is in favor of breaching the dams – that should be a call to arms for every farmer and rancher in Idaho."

Breaching the lower Snake River dams would mean closing the Port of Lewiston – a key artery in the shipment of Idahoan goods out-of-state – the loss of hydroelectric energy generation as well as losing an essential means of flood control.
